Much like the all-mountain riding they're designed for, Specialized's Rime MTB Shoes do it all. Just the right amount of stiffness is built in for efficient pedaling and walking flexibility, and the grippy Vibram soles make hike-a-bikes easy. Of course, the Rimes feature Specialized's Body Geometry ergonomics for awesome efficiency and comfort, while the Boa and Velcro closures make it a breeze to find a perfect fit and feel. With armor around the toes and heels, synthetic uppers and wrap-style tongues that keep the dirt out, the Rimes are sure to be your go-to shoes for all off-road rides.

Boa Lacing System

In lieu of standard Velcro straps, these shoes use the innovative Boa lacing system. The micro-adjustable Boa dials and wire laces evenly distribute pressure for a custom fit, maximum comfort, excellent pedaling efficiency and even hot-spot prevention. Plus, the dials are easy to use and rebuildable, too.

The three common shoe-cleat bolt-hole patterns.
In order to mount your pedal cleats to your shoes, they must have matching bolt patterns (pedals come with cleats, shoes come without). The three common cleat configurations on cycling shoes are SPD-R, Look/SPD-SL and SPD. The illustrations above show the bolt-hole patterns found on the shoe soles for each cleat type.
  • Road shoes feature one, two or even all three of these patterns. There is also a 4-bolt pattern for Speedplay cleats but it's rare (Speedplay cleats also fit on shoes that have the common Look/SPD-SL pattern).
  • Mountain-bike shoes usually use the SPD pattern.
